Support Education for Our Veterans and their Families
One way we can support our veterans and their families is by providing continuing education opportunities. The origin of educate is the Latin word educare which means to âbring up, rear.â Every day we learn, train, inform and instruct which in turn, means we support education for our children, young adults, service members and veterans. Malcolm X stated, âEducation is the passport to the future for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today.â
So how do we help to support our children, young adults, service members and veterans to achieve their educational goals?
Sport Clips Help a Hero Scholarship â Application Deadline
The VFW’s âSport Clips Help A Hero Scholarshipâ provides service members and veterans with the financial assistance they need to complete their educational goals without incurring excessive student loan debt. Â It is just one more way for us to say âthank youâ to those who fought for our freedoms.
Applications are currently being accepted through April 30, 2018 for the Fall 2018 semester. Visit the VFW website for scholarship details and eligibility requirements.
New Education and Training Center at VFW National Home
The VFW National Home recently received an extremely generous donation of $30,000 from Mrs. Linda Peterson. These funds are to be used for the planned remodeling of an existing building for a new Education and Training Center located on its campus.
With this donation, the new Education and Training Center will be a huge improvement for VFW National Home. It will allow for more space to provide effective education and training for residents and volunteers throughout the year while also functioning as a robust center for visitors.
There are three ways that you and/or your Auxiliary can help the VFW National Home provide support for military and veteran families today.
- MEET LINDA and JERRYâS CHALLENGE
Help with a donation to reach the goal of $79,300 and provide the funds needed to build a new Education and Training Center on the VFW National Home campus.
- EDUCATION NEEDS
Send a donation to help provide essential education materials and resources, residents, visitors and volunteers at the VFW National Home.
- URGENT NEEDS
Send a donation to help make the biggest impact where needed most â such as professional counseling for veterans, food for our children and their families, medical care, licensed childcare and more.
Together, we can make a real difference! Linda and Jerry Peterson have done their part. I hope that you and your Auxiliary members will rise to the challenge of this urgent fundraising effort as well. I encourage your Auxiliary to support this challenge and send your donations before May 15th. Your gift is a wonderful way to honor the service of our nationâs heroes and help their families through education.
As we Catch the Dream for Our Veterans, I thank you for all the extraordinary simple acts of kindness you perform each day to support our veterans, our service members, and their families.
I wish you and your family an enjoyable Passover and Easter season.
