It’s National Home Awareness Week!
VFW National Home Awareness Week: March 19-25, 2017
Veterans, active-duty service members and their families may experience mental, emotional and financial stresses due to deployment and war. Children in military families experience higher rates of mental health and trauma-related issues than children in non-military families. Families struggling with these issues want the same for their family as we do for ours – a safe and loving home.
The VFW National Home for Children offers military and veteran families a safe environment where families can heal and can focus on putting the pieces of their lives back together; kids can focus on being kids.
The National Home’s community is open to families of:
- Active-duty military personnel
- Veterans
- Descendants of members of the VFW and its Auxiliary
The family can be one or both parents with one or more children.
During National Home Awareness Week, please work with your Post and pledge to help a veteran and their family in need in YOUR community. You can request bands/bracelets from the National Home that state “I Will Help A Veteran Family” along with the Military and Veteran Family Helpline phone number (800-313-4200).
The National Home suggests handing this band/bracelet to a veteran or military family and sharing the life-changing opportunity the National Home may be able to offer them. If you are ready to connect a family in your area with the help they desperately need, contact the National Home at info@vfwnationalhome.org to receive your band/bracelet.
Please work with your Post on this project for our veterans, active-duty service members and their families; they deserve our help. Educate fellow Auxiliary and community members so they, too, have a better understanding of how the National Home can help military and veteran families in need. Visit the National Home website for more information.
Thank you to the Auxiliaries who are already working on this endeavor, it is very much appreciated.
