“The Face of Sacrifice” | Medium: Oil Paint and Iron Paint
Sponsored by VFW Auxiliary 4146 | Victoria, Texas

The Flag is raised overhead with its vibrant colors of red, white, and blue. Out of respect and love, we honor the Flag that reminds us of the cost of freedom. Hats are removed and set upon the hearts of many as the words of glory are echoed. Hearing “The Star-Spangled Banner” and joining in the Pledge of Allegiance gives the nation a moment to reflect and rejoice in the privilege of being an American. As the moment of silence comes forth, it is at this time that the faces of freedom fighters are remembered. The rusted background symbolizes the passing of time and those who have served before them.

Although this painting recognizes Joe Kovar, a VFW member and Korean War veteran, this piece is dedicated to all men and women whose hearts bleed patriotism. We stand to honor these battlefield warriors for fighting for our freedom.” – Sana Saif
