“Land of the free and home of the brave” the baseline for our country’s foundation and a cherished gift given to each and every citizen living in the United States. But this gift came at a costly price.
As we comfortably enjoy the liberty given to us, millions bear the risk of losing their own lives to fight for it. In my artwork, I would like to honor not a specific sector, but all the participants of various military positions and their families’ sacrifices in defending the freedom that our country so proudly upholds. Patriotism in this piece comes alongside the pride of serving the country, the melancholy of those who have passed away, and the yearning of one’s family. I portrayed the different races and genders of the war effort, who reflect the strong unified sense of nationalism amongst even the most diverse group of citizens in this country.” – Karina Yang
