VOD Parade of Winners and Patriotic Art Contest
The VFW Auxiliary Continuing Education Scholarship deadline has passed and I am eager to hear who the winners will be from each Conference this year! I am also looking forward to attending the Voice of Democracy Parade of Winners in Washington, D.C., next week and meeting so many talented and patriotic young Americans. I encourage you to watch the live stream of the Parade of Winners to see where the winner from your Department places. It will be live streamed at http://www.vfw.org/VFWDC2017 beginning at 6:00 p.m. EST on Monday, February 27.
While the majority of our scholarship deadlines have passed, there is still one scholarship to promote this year: the Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest.
There are nearly 3,500 high school students that submit an entry in this scholarship contest each year and weâd love to see that number increase! There are many patriotic art students who could use the scholarship money for their post-secondary education. Contest participants must submit entries to a local VFW Auxiliary by March 31. The ïŹrst-place winner from each VFW Auxiliary will be sent to the Department for judging.
If you attended National Convention in Charlotte last year, I hope you took the time to see each Departmentâs first-place piece. If you werenât there or were unable to see them, you can see all the 2015-2016 Department winners on the VFW Auxiliary website here: https://vfwauxiliary.org/2016deptartwinners/.
*NEW THIS YEAR* – The National Organization is thrilled to be bringing all the first-place Department winning pieces to National Convention again this year. The Department winners will be judged at National Convention in New Orleans and the pieces will be returned directly to the students. Make sure you have the students contact information (name, mailing address, phone number and email address) so their artwork can be returned to them.
Itâs not too late to promote this contest! Please see the Resources page behind Member Login on National Organizationâs website for tools you can use, including:
