Scholarships: Think Outside the Box

This will be my last blog as your 2023-2024 National Scholarships Ambassador. This year has been a great year and a learning experience for all. I want to thank everyone for being patient with me, as I was brought in a little late in the planning process. I have loved working with each and every one of you.

Even though our 2023-2024 Scholarships will end in July, it’s now time to start promoting the VFW’s 2024-2025 Voice of Democracy and Patriots Pen Scholarships. The VOD theme for the 2024-2025 year is “Is America Today our Forefathers’ Vision?” The Patriots Pen Theme for the 2024-2025 year is “My Voice in America’s Democracy?”

Please start getting this information out into your communities. If you know a teacher, talk with him/her and see if they would be interested in having the class do this as an assignment. The children that will be selected from each Department to move on to the National level will have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I absolutely had a blast with each of the students this year. Even as a chaperone it was “a once-in-a-lifetime” opportunity for me, even though I had been to Washington, D.C. a few times before.

Please remember to donate to the escrow fund for the Auxiliary’s Patriotic Art Contests. By doing this it will help increase the award amounts and add more awards in the future.

Always remember to “think outside of the box” when trying to come up with ways to get our scholarship information out into our communities. While doing so, always stay humble and kind to everyone, we are encouraging to participate in VFW Auxiliary Programs.
