NATIONAL PRESIDENT TO PRESIDE OVER 105th NATIONAL CONVENTION
Kansas City, Mo. – July 21, 2018 — National President Dee Guillory, Life Member of Wilkins-Edwards Auxiliary 176, located in Newport News, Va., begins presiding over the 105th National Convention of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Auxiliary at the Kansas City Convention Center here today (July 21).
A highlight of the convention will be the second annual Circle of Excellence Ceremony tonight, where 21 Department (state) presidents will be honored for their leadership during the 2017-2018 year.
On Monday, special guests will appear before the members and awards for members’ hard work will be presented in each of the eight national programs. On Tuesday, VFW Commander-in-Chief Keith Harman will visit members for the last time in that position, and proposed resolutions and revisions to the VFW Auxiliary National Bylaws will be presented.
Other highlights include the opportunity for members to view the Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest winning artwork from 49 states and entries in the “Buddy”® Poppy display contest, in addition to attending several joint events with the VFW, such as the Joint Opening Session.
During the convention, National President Guillory will commend the 2,000 attendees for their hard work honoring veterans and supporting deployed military personnel and their families. Members raised millions of dollars and volunteered millions of hours helping the heroes of our country this year.
The National President also will thank members for volunteering more than 840,000 hours in the nation’s hospitals and for providing more than $5.1 million in monetary donations, goods and services to help veterans, active-duty service members and their families.
The election and installation of incoming National President Sandi Kriebel, a Life Member of Yingling-Ridgely Auxiliary 7472, and the other 2018-2019 National Officers on Wednesday, July 25, will conclude the convention and bring Guillory’s term to an end.
