Leona McDermott
2021-2022 National Chief of Staff & Mentoring for Leadership Ambassador
Is Your Auxiliary Strong and Healthy and Ready for the 2022-2023 Year?
As the year draws to a close, my hope is that my promotional material has assisted you in ensuring your Auxiliary is strong and ready to hit the ground running for the 2022-2023 Program Year.
Every Member Makes a Difference – Each and every one of you can make a difference as a member not only in your Auxiliary, but in the lives of our veterans and their families. Think about your “why”. Why did your join your Auxiliary? What is your passion? What talents do you bring to the table? What can you do to make the life of a veteran and/or their family better?
It is up to each and every one of us to do our part. Will you be someone who steps up and takes an Office in your Auxiliary to move it forward? Throughout the year I have provided you with the resources and information you need to take that next step. Now it is up to you. Don’t be afraid to take that next step – we are blessed to have so many mentors available to us – don’t be afraid to ask questions or try something new. Let your heart and passion be your guide.
When electing Officers, I encourage every Auxiliary to truly think about who will do the best job for your Auxiliary – elections should not be a popularity contest – elections are about choosing the person who can and will do the best job and move your Auxiliary forward. Just because a person has held an office for a long time does not necessarily mean they are the best fit for that position. Change is a good thing – don’t be afraid to put your faith in someone who is fairly new to the organization. A wise person once said: “If you always do what you always did, then you will always get what your always got!”
It has been an absolute honor to have served this year as your National Chief of Staff and Mentoring for Leadership Ambassador. I have learned so much from each of you and I hope that you have learned from what I had to offer as well. Always remember that at the end of the day, veterans and their families are our purpose. Please continue to Soar Above and Beyond for our veterans and their families all across this great nation.
