Membership & Recruitment: Don’t Lose! Pay Your Dues!

Do you wonder why membership is a primary focus for our organization? One of the reasons is though we are on the Auxiliary side of the VFW family, our membership numbers count when the VFW goes to Capitol Hill to fight for veterans’ rights. Our membership numbers, added to the VFW membership numbers, shows the 116^th Congress that we mean business when it comes to fighting for veterans’ rights. Along with bringing in new members, it is so important to pay your dues to keep the organization’s membership numbers up so that members of Congress will listen when the VFW goes to Capitol Hill to state our concerns.

DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU LOSE IF YOU DON’T PAY YOUR VFW AUXILIARY DUES?

1. Cancer Grants.
2. Unable to attend meetings.
3. Unable to sign in at the canteen.
4. If you are an Officer, you will be removed.
5. Individual Auxiliary incentives (cheaper hall rental, etc.)

There are more than 30,000 members of this organization that are not in good standing! We don’t want to lose anyone, so we need to reach out to these members and help them get their dues paid before June 30, 2019.

We must unite together to make Membership our primary goal!

• Has your Department done any Membership trainings?
• Are you encouraging your members by supplying them with new recruiting ideas?
• Have you enabled and educated them on how they can get dues paid and processed?
• Have you encouraged the use of social media to reach potential new members?
• Have you connected with bachelor Posts in your Department to encourage them to authorize the institution of an Auxiliary?
• Have you shared with them WHY you are an active member of our organization?
• Have you encouraged your members to offer their family members the opportunity to celebrate and honor their veteran’s service by becoming an Auxiliary member?

Don’t forget to send in for these individual Member Awards!

1. One Uncle Sam Hat Pin to each VFW and VFW Auxiliary member who recruits five (5) new and/or rejoined members to the VFW Auxiliary from July 1, 2018 through April 30, 2019. Official form required. Due to National Headquarters by May 31, 2019. Pin will be mailed directly to the member.
2. One Patriotic Vest Pin to each VFW and VFW Auxiliary member who recruits 10 new and/or rejoined members to the VFW Auxiliary from July 1, 2018 through April 30, 2019. Official form required. Due to National Headquarters by May 31, 2019. Pin will be mailed directly to the member.
3. National Membership Achievement Award – Each VFW or VFW Auxiliary member who secures 20 new and/or rejoined members from July 1, 2018 through April 30, 2019, with the official form received at National Headquarters by May 31, 2019, will be awarded with the National Membership Achievement Award.

Communication: Please continue to have frequent, open communications with your members about membership. This could be through your bulletins, by email, placing personal phone calls, posting on Facebook, or in any other way you can dream up. It is never too late to get your members excited to work with each other to get everyone to reach 100% plus in Membership.
