Linda Compton
2016-2017 Chief of Staff/Extension Ambassador
Time of Transition
We have come to the time of transition when we finalize and report our projects for the current year and turn our attention to beginning a new Auxiliary year.
During this time of transition, we have the opportunity to rethink, reevaluate, and cast aside preconceived notions, allowing us to open our minds to new possibilities. It is important to continue our commitment to a Healthy Auxiliary and reset our goals. A positive attitude and outlook are vital as we travel together into the future.
Auxiliaries have elected new officers for the 2017-2018 year and will begin installing these new leaders in the coming weeks. Please refer to Section 806 – Installation of the 2017 Podium Edition of Bylaws. This section provides important information for the installation of new officers at the Auxiliary, District, County Council, Department and National levels. Proceed to the Ritual for the Installation of Officers. Auxiliary, District and County Council begin on page 41; Department begins on page 58; and National begins on page 64.
Our organization’s goal is to assist all veterans. Our Bylaws explain the VFW Auxiliary’s objectives as follows:
The objects of our organization shall be fraternal, patriotic, historical, and educational.
We all took the membership oath to:
- Assist VFW Posts and their members.
- Assist VFW Auxiliaries and their members.
- Pledge true allegiance to the United States of America.
- Exhibit fidelity to the Constitution and our laws.
- Foster true patriotism.
- Maintain and extend the institution of American freedom with equal rights and justice to all men and women.
- Preserve and defend the United States of America from all her enemies.
It has been a very exciting year for our organization. Let’s keep the momentum going. I have enjoyed sharing information about our Extension Program and having the opportunity to offer possible solutions to problems you were facing. I hope all Auxiliaries continue to utilize the Mentoring Guide.
The one thing we all have in common is VETERANS. The relationships we create through patience and caring about one another helps to produce strong leaders. When we mentor within our membership, we can truly better serve our veterans.
Thank you for what you do each and every day to support our veterans, active-duty military, their families, and your communities. It has been an extreme honor to serve as the National Chief of Staff/Extension Ambassador for 2017-2018. I wish you and your Auxiliary much success as you continue to have Unwavering Support for Uncommon Heroes®.
