10 Ways to Maintain a Healthy Attitude
It’s already the second week of January, but each day provides a new beginning. It’s not too late for a resolution (or two)!
I challenge you to make a resolution to improve your emotional health this year. A healthy attitude starts with YOU. Here are 10 ways to maintain a healthy attitude:
- Find one good thing about every person you meet/know.
- Associate with positive people.
- Do a good deed every day.
- Turn challenges into opportunities.
- Eat right and get plenty of rest.
- Exercise daily – even if it’s a brief 10-minute walk.
- Be proud of yourself and what you do – your work, your volunteer work, your family.
- Find time to relax and do something you enjoy each day – even if it’s for five minutes!
- Remember to smile and laugh every day.
- You are in control of yourself and your attitude.
Our organization’s tag line “Unwavering Support for Uncommon Heroes”™ is a powerful reminder that all our efforts and energy need to be positive if we want to be successful. Over the years, our mentoring program has taught us to assist new members in understanding our objectives and traditions as they become involved with our work. Our current members bring experience, balance and knowledge to our accomplishments as we assist all veterans and their families. The word TEAM – Together Everyone Accomplishes More – promotes the loyalty among us as we demonstrate our allegiance to all members while honoring all veterans.
Now is a good time to ask everybody if they are helping your Auxiliary maintain a healthy state. This brings to mind a poem many are familiar with – this excerpt from the poem is a good reminder for “everybody”.
“Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it,
Any Anyone could have done it,
But in the end Nobody always ended up with the task.
When Nobody did it,
Somebody was angry because it was Everybody’s job.
But Everybody thought that Somebody would do it instead.
Now Nobody realized that Nobody would do it.
So consequently Everybody blamed Somebody
When Nobody did what Anybody could have done
In the first place.”
The new year allows us to look back at our history and reflect on the good and healthy efforts and energy that have brought us success. Let’s use that success and positive energy as we enter 2017 and make our VFW Auxiliaries stronger and healthier for many years to come.
Remember, stay positive, communicate, and demonstrate healthy attitudes – ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING! Best wishes for a healthy 2017.
