2018-2019 National "Buddy"® Poppy/VFW National Home for Children Ambassador
On a personal note, I want to thank National President Sandi Kriebel for this wonderful opportunity. I have really learned a lot this year and feel I am a better person because of this experience. A special ‘thank you’ to all the Department Chairmen who stepped up and accepted this position in your Department. I am truly amazed at all the creative and informative ways you have promoted this Program. It demonstrates to me the dedication and passion for our veterans, active-duty service members and their families. Please keep it going!
“Buddy”® Poppy
The Department’s Program Year is coming to an end. Please keep it going and report the new activities to your 2019-2020 Department Program Chairman. I extend all my best wishes for “Buddy”® Poppy activities coming up this month. Remember to educate your members and the community about the importance and history of this very special memorial flower.
I would like to remind you of Moina Michaels poem:
Oh! you who sleep in Flanders Fields,
Sleep sweet – to rise anew!
We caught the torch you threw
And holding high, we keep the Faith
With All who died.
We cherish, too, the poppy red
That grows on fields where valor led;
It seems to signal to the skies
That blood of heroes never dies,
But lends a luster to the red
Of the flower that blooms above the dead
In Flanders Fields.
And now the Torch and Poppy Red
We wear in honor of our dead.
Fear not that ye have died for naught;
We’ll teach the lesson that ye wrought
In Flanders Fields.

National President Special Project – Update
$85,000.00 | Goal |
$84,161.33 | Total as 4/23/19 |
$838.67 | Total Needed |
Rumor has it that during a visit to the Department of Washington by National President Sandi, a donation was made to meet or exceed our goal! It is still unofficial until I receive the total from the Director of Finance at the National Home. To be honest, I thought this goal would be difficult to reach and I kept my doubts to myself. The generosity and dedication of our Brothers, Sisters and Comrades never cease to amaze me! Thank you all for making this happen – you all are truly an inspiration!
SWAP CORNER
I hope you all enjoyed the SWAP articles in the May issue of VFW Auxiliary Magazine. I received many wonderful ideas and have looked at many Facebook postings. Keep sharing and sending pictures of your projects to National Headquarters so they have the opportunity to publish your SWAP!
