The leaves are falling and the weather is changing. Halloween was a few days ago and weâre looking forward to Thanksgiving feasts in a few weeks. The months are flying by and before you know it the holiday season will be here!
Upcoming Patriotic Holidays include:
November 10 â Marine Corps Birthday: Thank a Marine!
November 11 â Veterans Day: Many of us are still unable to hold big events or gatherings due to the Covid-19 pandemic. There are still many ways to honor and recognize our veterans on this day.
- Make a meal and deliver it to local veterans.
- Host a video call to thank them personally.
- Host a virtual coffee hour.
- Deliver thank you cards to local veteransâ homes, VA hospitals or nursing homes.
- Remember the veterans at your Post Home.
November 26 â Thanksgiving Day: We have much to be thankful for, including our veterans!
- Make an extra Thanksgiving Dinner and deliver it to homebound veterans or the elderly.
- Collect items to make a Thanksgiving dinner such as canned goods, stuffing, a turkey, etc. and donate them to a family in need.
December 7 â Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day: On this day we remember the 2,403 lives lost in the Japanese surprise attack on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii on December 7, 1941. This event led to the United States declaring war on Japan the next day and thus entering World War II.
Remember to fly your Flag proudly on these days! There are many things that can be done to commemorate these days. Please remember to stay within the Covid-19 guidelines set forth in your community! Think outside the box!
As we all know this is the season of giving! During this time as you are being generous with all of your gifts and sending out your holiday cards (use American Flag stamps!), remember our veterans near and far by stuffing and delivering stockings, hosting a luncheon or delivering yummy treats. Donât forget to send a card to our service members overseas. You can also add an American Flag sticker to you gifts boxes or bags for a patriotic touch.
As you see all the holiday displays around town keep an extra eye out for those who use the American Flag in their display. It would be nice to give them a âPatriotic Appreciationâ citation which can be found on the Program & Publicity Resources page of the VFW Auxiliary website.
I have been excited to receive so many reports and pictures. The Auxiliaries have been working hard to spread patriotism. Keep it up; we all need to stand united!
The seasons are changing but one thing that is not changing is all the hard work we do âHonoring Our Mission to Serve Our Veterans!â
